Very central, at 3 minutes on foot from the San Marco Square and at 5 from the Rialto Bridge, the Hotel Antica Locanda al Gambero is located in a really comfortable position among the 3-star hotels in Venice. In Calle dei Fabbri, one of the most characteristic and famous streets of the city, at the feet of the picturesque Ponte de le Pignate, the hotel is set in the labyrinths of lanes and channels which make Venice unique.
At the end of the long and narrow Calle dei Fabbri, after the Sottoportego del Dai, you will find like in a dream the San Marco Square, the wonderful living-room of the city. The Basilica of San Marco sparkling with mosaics is framed by the porticos of the Procuratie which host boutiques and the famous historical coffees Florian and Quadri; the rose and light structure of Palazzo Ducale, one of the highest examples of Venetian gothic architectonic, goes towards the Bacino San Marco, wonderful water mirror. The proud Campanile, with the beautiful loggia of Sansovino dominates the square.
Colorful virtuosities and excellent pictures are instead those painted by the Veronese on the enormous canvas (in Venice humidity and saltiness did not allow to paint frescos) in almost half a century of activities in Palazzo in the second half of the '500. The glory and splendor of Venice are celebrated in the most sumptuous and important rooms of Palazzo Ducale with masterpieces: the room of the Consiglio dei X, the room of the Collegio and the room of the Maggior Consiglio.
